Natural and cultural sites the South Karelia Museum, the Lappeenranta Art Museum and the Saimaa Geopark visitor centre are situated in the Lappeenranta Fortress.

The Fortress of Lappeenranta is a historical attraction and it offers wide range of services. Construction of the Fortress on the First Salpausselkä ice-marginal formation began in the 1720’s by the Swedish. For example the South Karelia Museum and the Lappeenranta Art Museum are located in the Fortress of Lappeenranta.

At the northern end of the Fortress, Satamatie 8, you will find the Saimaarium Nature and Science Centre, which has the Saimaa Geopark visitor centre in its entrance.  You can find more information about Saimaarium here
